What is Bone Grafting?
Bone grafting is an oral surgery procedure that is required when the jawbone is not thick or dense enough for an orthodontic or other treatment. The procedure involves placing materials at the point of extraction to help preserve bone height. The jawbone will then grow along with the grafted bone tissue to create a more stable and stronger foundation.
Once a tooth has been extracted or lost, the jawbone at the area begins resorbing or deteriorating. It is important to correct the resorption before placing a dental implant.
