Types of Braces
Types of Braces
Braces are typically used for straightening teeth that aren’t in proper alignment. If you or your child have such alignment issues with your teeth, corrective dental braces can provide the ideal solution. These dental appliances provide oral health benefits that go beyond the scope of the perfect smile. While braces are typically prescribed during childhood or adolescence, it has also become common among adults. Almost 20% of people wearing braces are now adults.
When to Get Braces?
At Doral Dental Specialty Center, our orthodontists can help you choose the perfect braces based on your dental condition, needs, and preferences.
We may recommend braces in the following scenarios:
- Your teeth are visibly crowded or crooked
- You frequently bit your tongue
- You have crooked teeth and you have difficulty flossing between and brushing around them
- You have difficulty in pronouncing certain sounds because your tongue is position with respect to your teeth
- Your teeth don’t close properly over each other when at rest
- Your jaws make noises when you wake up from sleep or when you chew
- Fatigue or stress on the jawline after chewing food
Different Types of Braces
Some of the common braces options that we work with include the following:
Traditional Metal Braces
We use metal braces made of high-grade stainless steel while using brackets and archwires to correct your teeth. These braces use metal brackets/wires to move your teeth into alignment for an extended period of time. If required, we may also consider the latest heat-activated archwires along with your metal braces. Some of the key benefits are as follows:
- Traditional metal braces can take care of most types of misalignments in a quick time.
- Braces are typically expensive, but traditional braces are the most affordable option for you.
Clear Braces
Clear braces are made of ceramic and are suited for patients that don’t want to keep their braces inconspicuous. These braces can be similar to traditional braces. Some of the key benefits include:
- Clear braces help increase your confidence levels
- They provide you with a subtler way to straighten your teeth
- The treatment times are shorter
- There is improved oral health
Self-Ligating Braces
These braces are made using the same materials as traditional braces. There is no use of elastics for teeth straightening. Due to this reason, you will require fewer visits to our office and lesser pressure and friction get applied onto the teeth. These braces feature metal, clear, or ceramic brackets. Specialized clips are used instead of elastics to guide the archwire into place.
Clear Aligners or Invisalign
Clear aligners are almost invisible and removable acrylic trays. They can be removed whenever you want to eat, drink, brush, or floss.
So, these braces do not interfere with your brushing and flossing activities, unlike other options. It is essential to keep wearing them continuously and switch out the trays based on the schedule.
