TMJ Disorder Surgery
TMJ disorder surgery helps in reducing pain and improving jaw functioning. Our Oral Surgeon in Doral, FL uses this treatment option only after exhausting all other options. There are different types of TMJ surgeries and they are required in different scenarios. This includes:
- TMJ Arthroscopy: This is a minimally invasive surgery and you can return home the same day. A micro-incision is made to repair the TMJ disc or remove a bone spur.
- Modified Condylotomy: Our oral surgeon will increase the joint space to prevent your jaw from locking up.
- Arthrocentesis: This is also a minimally invasive procedure and involves inserting needles into the jaw and rising the joint using sterile fluid. We will clean the joint and remove any causes of inflammation.
- Arthroplasty or Arthrotomy (Open Procedure): During this more invasive procedure, our surgeon will fix the disc or joint. It will require general anesthesia.
- Joint Replacement: This is an invasive TMJ surgery where our Oral Surgeon in Doral, FL will replace parts of the TMJ or the complete joint with a prosthetic. Similar to open surgery, this will also require general anesthesia and an overnight stay at the facility.
