Retainers

Retainers

Orthodontic treatment doesn’t end with the removal of braces. Retention is a crucial phase and involves holding the new position of your teeth until the bones, gums, and muscles get adapted to it. Besides traditional and clear braces, Doral Dental Specialty Center also offers effective retention solutions. Our Orthodontist in Doral, FL, Dr. Carlos Feo, provides a wide range of retainers to keep your teeth aligned.

The Need for Retainers

Retainers are required by all our patients who need to undergo orthodontic treatment. These orthodontic appliances maintain the results you achieved while keeping your teeth and jaws aligned. Before your braces are installed, our orthodontist will assess your teeth and jaws’ structure. This allows us to create the best treatment plan. Post your braces treatment, retainers are important. Without them, you will return to the same orthodontic problem.

Types of Retainers

There are different types of retainers and our orthodontist will suggest the one that best suits your needs. Hawley Retainers, Clear Essix Retainers, and Fixed Retainers get bonded behind the upper/lower front teeth and help you retain your beautiful smile.

We install all the different types of retainers. This includes the following:

Hawley Retainers

Hawley retainers use a combination of acrylic plate or hard plastic with a thin metal wire. The shape of the retainer is molded to your mouth for a comfortable fit on the roof of the mouth. The wire goes against the front of the top teeth. Once our Orthodontist in Doral, FL recommends these retainers, you will be required to wear them nightly for life. They can be used after your treatment using braces or clear aligners. Some of the key advantages of these retainers are as follows:

Clear Essix Retainers

We also provide Essix retainers that are designed to protect the results achieved with braces or clear aligners. These are clear and removable plastic aligners and need to be worn regularly after your treatment. You will be required to wear them all day long for the first few months and then switch to nightie wearing. Some of the advantages of Essix retainers are as follows:

Fixed Retainers

Fixed retainers are made of a wire glued to the tongue side of the front teeth. They are also referred to as permanent or bonded retainers. The wire is made of stainless steel. The retainer usually goes over the first 4 to 6 teeth, because they are likely to return to their original position after the completion of orthodontic treatment. These retainers are designed to stay in place forever.

Some of the advantages of fixed retainers are as follows:
