Crown Lengthening
Crown Lengthening
Tooth cavities can sometimes cause your tooth to decay to a point where a restoration procedure may not be an effective treatment. In such cases, the oral surgery team at Doral Dental Specialty Center may consider crown lengthening. This is a routine surgical procedure at our office in Doral. It involves remodeling the contour of your gumline. Contrary to the name, the crown is not lengthened, but the gum line is lowered during the procedure. This is the only treatment option when we do not find enough teeth structure for a crown. We serve the communities around the Doral and Miami areas with our comprehensive dental care and treatment solutions.
When is Crown Lengthening Required?
- Restoring Damaged Teeth: Decay, periodontal disease, and trauma can cause severe damage to your teeth. When teeth are broken below the gum line, we can use crown lengthening to prepare the area for restoration and correction of the damaged teeth.
- Aesthetic Reasons: Sometimes our patients have additional gum tissue, which makes their teeth look short. This also increases the risk of periodontal infections. Crown lengthening can help restore a natural and balanced look while improving your smile.
- For New Crowns: The crown lengthening procedure also prevents the new crown from causing any damage to gum tissues or bone. The procedure does this by creating more space between the crown and supporting jawbone.
This type of oral surgery is relatively simple and we can usually complete it in a single sitting. It is usually performed under local anesthesia. At Doral Dental Specialty Center, we have dentists with specializations in different fields including oral surgery and orthodontics. This allows us to provide comprehensive dental care and treatment services under the same roof.
