They are almost always made of titanium. This is due to titanium’s ability to grow into human bone without causing any adverse effects. This is primarily why titanium is used in bone replacement surgeries such as knee and hip replacements. Once the implant is in place, a replacement tooth is fixed to it. This replacement tooth can be made to be either removable or permanently attached; however, most dental specialists agree that permanent teeth are much stronger and feel more natural.

While old tooth restoration techniques such as dentures and bridges are still used, implants are known to be much more strong and stable. Implants are expected to last the rest of your lifetime while giving you a strong, permanent bite. Dentures are removable, which makes them more unstable, while bridges are only expected to last between seven to ten years.
